NHSBSA enquiry letter: what to do

An enquiry letter is often the quiet warning before a Penalty Charge Notice. Respond early with proof — do not assume silence means everything is fine.

The NHSBSA Exemption Checking Service can write months after a pharmacy or dental claim. That delay is why people are shocked by a sudden pile of letters.

Responding the right way

  1. Find the reference at the top of the letter.
  2. Use the official Respond to your letter service.
  3. If unsure about ongoing entitlement, protect the next pickup with a PPC.
  4. If a PCN already arrived, follow our PCN challenge guide.
